Tunnel Construction Began at Charnock Hill
Road in Rutland, MA - July 17, 2006

The Rutland DPW began digging out the fill over the old Mass Central Rail Road
at Charnoch Hill Road and exposing the old wooden bridge footings that once
crossed the rail road in the early 1900's. The plan is to muck out the
road bed spanning the entire rock cut area of Charnock Hill and begin laying the
rock ballast road bed next week (July 24). About August 3, work will begin on
installing the precast tunnel sections that will run under Charnoch Hill
Road.
