Biking on the Nashua River Rail Trail - May 13, 2003
The weather cooperated and the whole day went well with no rain. It was great for biking especially when we considered canceling the event. The Wachusett Greenways sponsored this bike trip that ran about 12 miles from Ayer to the NH border. On the return leg we stopped for a great lunch at the Crumpets restaurant in Pepperell.

Holden DPW has returned to the MCRT to complete the surfacing of the trail between the two Kaplan bridges. The plan is to complete the trail bed by the week of May 18. Wachusett Greenways is pleased that the Town of Holden offered their services for this great recreational trail in our area.

Bill Johansen lead this popular exploration walk to Poutwater Pond in Holden on May 18, 2003. Here he is holding samples of peat that grows around the pond. The peat as explained by Bill, is a floating bog on the shore and the surface is soft and soggy wet.
Wachusett Greenways volunteers spent Saturday May 17, 2003 chipping brush on the rail trail in Sterling. The work was conducted at both ends of the trail. The center of Sterling near the candle store and at the Gates Road end. The anticipated installation of the bridge across the Quag area will be the necessary link to complete this trail section.
