Happy March!

The hiking series around the Wachusett Reservoir will continue for another round, for this month we will start earlier at 10am. The last hike of the month will be followed by a brown bag lunch at DCR headquarters to learn more and view historical photographs and press clippings.

Watershed Wednesday for March will be an interactive presentation to know your flood risk on March 20!

Programs are free and open to the public. Dogs and domestic animals are prohibited on watershed lands.

Saturday, March 2, 10:00-11:30am 

GATE 22 Hike to South Bay

About 2.5 miles round trip as we explore the unbeaten path on the south side of Gate 22.  Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 22, Rt 140, West Boylston. GPS address 167 Temple St, West Boylston.

GATE 8 Hike to The Narrows                                                                          

About 2.5 miles round trip as we meet the shore at the narrowest part of the reservoir.  Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 8, Parking near the intersection of Cross Street and Route 70, Boylston.

Saturday, March 16, 10:00-12:00

GATE 35 Hike to Tahanto Point This 4-mile moderate round trip with hills will loop at Tahanto Point. We will pause for wildlife watching opportunities on Eagle Island before returning. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 35, at the intersection of Route 110 and Chace Hill Rd, Sterling. 

Wednesday, March 20, 6:30-7:30pm 


It’s flood season! Join this interactive presentation by Nadia Madden, DCR’s Floodplain Management Specialist. Part of the “Watershed Wednesday” series. One Wednesday each month DCR staff meet for engaging conversations with the community. All are welcome.  Tea and hot chocolate will be available. Meet at DCR Water Supply Protection Headquarters Building, 180 Beaman Street, West Boylston. The main entrance is at the flagpole.    

Saturday, March 30, 10:00am-11:30am 


About 2.5 miles round trip to the Wachusett Dam and back. We will wrap up the hiking series with this visitor favorite! Following the morning hike, bring your own lunch to hear more about the reservoir history at our headquarters–see below.  Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 39 North Dike. Parking at the intersection of South Meadow Road and Route 110, Clinton.

Saturday, March 30, 12:00-1:00pm 

Reservoir History, Holding the Water                                                                                                                                                        Bring your own lunch and learn more about the construction of the reservoir from historical photographs, annual reports and press clippings. Tea and hot chocolate will be available. All are welcome! Meet at DCR Water Supply Protection Headquarters Building, 180 Beaman Street, West Boylston. The main entrance is at the flagpole.
