The new bridge at West Lake Washacum, Sterling, on the Mass Central Rail Trail is coming. The bridge will be closed from June 8 to July 28. During this time Wachusett Greenways will restore the abutments and embankment, place a new set of granite steps to the fishing area, place the new bridge and install a new split ril fence.
Parking is open at the Sterling center entrance at 15 Washacum Street behind O’ My Gosh Antiques. Trail visitors can travel 1.5 miles on the trail to the bridge closure, then return. Parking is also open at Gates Road, and you can travel 0.2 miles before returning.
